What counts as a drainage emergency in Vancouver

Anything actively damaging your property or creating a health risk. We treat these as drop everything emergencies, around the clock.

Active sewage backup. Sewage coming up through a basement floor drain, a shower drain or a laundry standpipe means the main lateral is blocked downstream. Every flush and every load of laundry makes it worse, and we need to be on site before contamination spreads.

Basement flooding from drainage failure. An atmospheric river hits, the perimeter drain is overwhelmed, the sump pump has failed, the downspouts have backed up. Any combination of that and water is now on your basement floor. The longer it sits the more it costs. Every truck carries submersible pumps and emergency hydro flush equipment.

A toilet overflowing repeatedly. A toilet that overflows when other fixtures drain means the main soil stack or the lateral is blocked. A single fixture clog is a regular booking. Multi fixture symptoms are an emergency.

Sewer smell suddenly through the whole house. A lost P-trap seal, a dry trap on a rarely used floor drain, or a blocked vent stack. It is a health risk if it is left.

A commercial kitchen drain blocked during service. Priority dispatch, because the point is keeping your kitchen open.

A strata common line backup. A shared horizontal stack failure hits every unit on that line. Property managers should call direct and we coordinate with council on the spot.

These are not emergencies, and they cost you less booked as a regular call: a slow single drain, occasional gurgling, a periodic smell, scheduled maintenance, and perimeter drainage work in the dry season.

Emergency drain services we handle 24/7

The same drain line with the walls cleared after cleaning

Submersible pump out, drain clearing and a perimeter drainage assessment. We do not do water remediation, meaning drywall and flooring, but we coordinate with the restoration company you choose.

Toilet and multi fixture backup

Soil stack or main lateral clearing, cable or jet depending on the cause.

Commercial kitchen grease trap overflow

4,000 PSI hydro jetting on FOG blocked stacks, restaurant priority. The job is keeping you open.

Strata common line emergency

Multi unit horizontal stack failure, direct property manager contact, and after hours certificates of service emailed once we close the call.

24/7 emergency dispatch

Water where it should not be?

Stop reading and call. A real dispatcher picks up around the clock, never voicemail, never an answering service, and you get the actual arrival window while you are still on the phone.

What happens when you call

A human picks up

Live dispatch around the clock, never voicemail. The dispatcher asks five questions: what is backing up, how long, where the water is, whether you can get at the cleanout, and your address.

You get a real arrival window

Named on the call, while you are still on the phone. If we end up running behind, we call you before you call us.

The truck arrives with the full kit

Cable machine, sectional machine, U-cutter and chain knocker bits, 4,000 PSI hydro jet, HD push camera, sonde locator, submersible pump, shop vac, drop cloths and a tarp kit. The gear is already on the truck.

Camera first, then clear

We scope through the nearest cleanout before snaking blindly, so we can see what is actually blocking. Then we cable or jet depending on what the camera showed, and scope again to confirm full flow. The MP4 is emailed to you.

Straight answer on the cause

If the blockage is a recurring problem, meaning roots, scale, a belly or broken pipe, we say so on site and quote the permanent fix in writing. No pressure. The emergency clear is its own job.

What to do before we arrive

  • Stop running water everywhere in the house. Every flush, every faucet, every load of laundry adds to the backup. Tell everyone to stop using water until we get there.
  • Shut off the main water valve if the water is uncontrolled. It is usually in the basement at the front foundation wall. On a quarter turn ball valve, the handle perpendicular to the pipe means closed. If you cannot find it, the dispatcher walks you through it on the call.
  • Move belongings out of the wet area. Cardboard wicks water and is finished. Wood furniture warps in standing water. Get what you can to dry ground, upstairs or in the garage.
  • Document it for insurance. Photos and a short video of the water level, the affected area and any damaged belongings. Time stamped photos are worth real money in a claim. Take them before anything gets moved.
  • Do not use chemical drain cleaners. Caustic cleaners burn a technician’s hands when we cable or jet. If you have already poured some in, tell the dispatcher so we bring full PPE.
  • Find the main cleanout if you can. It is a capped 4 inch pipe at the property line or against the foundation. If you find it, photograph it and text the dispatcher, because it cuts the search on arrival.
  • Open the garage or the side gate. Our trucks need a 12 foot clear approach for the cable machine and a 20 foot clear approach for the jetter trailer. Open everything you can before we get there.
  • Keep pets and kids away from the work area. Sewage water is Category 3 contamination, with bacterial, viral and parasitic risk. We tape the area off on arrival, but anyone there before that should clear out.
  • Call your insurer after we leave, not before. Most policies require you to mitigate immediately, so calling us first is the right move. Once the cause is documented on camera you can give the insurer a clear report.

What Vancouver customers say

Emergency drain service FAQ, Vancouver

Not for active flooding or a sewage emergency. Those are priced the same as a daytime call. A non emergency overnight call, meaning a slow drain that could comfortably wait, does carry an after hours surcharge. We do not penalise people for emergencies they did not choose.

Yes. Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, New Westminster, Surrey and Delta, all covered by the same overnight dispatcher.

Always scope. The camera goes in before the cable does, and again after. You see the blockage, you see it cleared, and you keep the MP4. There is no charge for the camera time. That is how we close the job.

Yes. Commercial emergency dispatch is about 40% of our overnight work. We schedule around your service hours where we can, so a restaurant reopens on its normal schedule. Full liability coverage and WCB, certificates emailed.

Yes. Property managers should call us directly. We coordinate with the strata council and provide overnight certificates of service for your insurance file. A common line backup is handled as a building emergency, not unit by unit.

No. We clear the drainage and pump out the standing water. For drywall, flooring and mould remediation you need a restoration contractor, and we coordinate the handoff with whoever your insurer recommends.

On an emergency call we clear what we can and get you flowing again, document the structural issue on camera, and quote the permanent fix in writing. The emergency clear is its own job. There is no pressure to commit to the repair on the spot.

Yes. Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Interac. We can also bill insurance directly if you have notified your carrier and have a claim number. Most emergency calls get paid on site by card.

Usually not. One fixture draining slowly, an occasional gurgle or a periodic smell is a regular booking and it costs you less that way. What makes it an emergency is more than one fixture backing up at once, sewage on the floor, or water actively rising.
